New Pre and Post School and Holiday Club now open
Pre-School Room
Pre-School Room – 2-5 years
Our Pre-School Room can accommodate up to 42 children. However in order to ensure quality childcare and education we prefer to limit this number to around 35.
The Pre-School caters for children from two to five years old with all the children having continuous free-flow access to the outdoors throughout the day.
Using the Early Years Foundation Stage framework staff plan a differentiated curriculum which is age and stage appropriate. This ensures learning opportunities for each age group throughout all aspects of play.
All children are encouraged to play and interact, regardless of age and stage of development, only being actively separated for Circle Times when they are spilt into their relevant groups.
Owls are our eldest children who are getting ready to start school, Tiggers are children who will be getting ready to start school the following year and Piglets are children who have transitioned from the Baby Room.
Throughout the year Circle Times cover a wide range of topics and activities. These can include anything from phonics, Numicon and problem solving activities for the Owls. Shape and colour matching, learning letter sounds and recognising their written name for the Tiggers and turn taking and sharing games as well as songs and stories for the Piglets.
Throughout our Pre-School Room there are dedicated areas for age appropriate activities which include role play, construction, computer and ICT, numeracy, music, reading, painting, creative, sand and water, heuristic play, baking as well as quiet and rest areas.
Here at Toy Box Day Nursery children are encouraged to take an active part in their own learning. On a daily basis they are encouraged to make choices on everything from deciding which cereal they would like to have at breakfast, input into the nursery menus, planning and activities they would like to participate in both indoors and outdoors.
Great emphasis is placed on manners and respect for their peers, other cultures and their surroundings.
The Pre-School outdoor play space has been purposefully designed to promote learning through the freedom and challenges open space and natural experiences provide.
It consists of a large grassed area, a tarmac and soft play area with a wooden climbing frame and a large sensory garden with mud kitchen as well as sand and water play. There are large planters for gardening. Here the children will learn about planting, watering and growing flowers, fruit and vegetables.
